LGBTQI+AwarenessWeekNI2017 – The Launch at Belfast Harbour Commissioner’s Building (Corporation Square, Belfast BT1 3AL) – Monday 15th May 2017 at 5.30pm, and the Programme for the Week
Cara-Friend, The Rainbow Project and HereNI have great pleasure in announcing this year’s LGBTQI+ Awareness Week, which will take place from May 14th until 21st all across Northern Ireland. The theme of the week is ‘Stand By Us‘, with the focus of the week being on people from outside the LGBTQI+ community who can help those within, in their fight for achieving equality and challenging prejudice.
The launch, taking place this evening at 5.30pm in the Barnett Room of the Harbour Commissioner’s Building, will see a number of short contributions from the three organising charities, The Rainbow Project, Cara-Friend and Here NI. Deputy Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Mary Ellen Campbell will also welcome guests to the launch. There will also be a keynote speech from Allison Morris, journalist, columnist and commentator, on the theme.
A broad spectrum of organisations will be in attendance at the launch of LGBTQI+ Awareness Week 2017, and will take part in a discussion around how better to involve and welcome allies and supporters to the work of the wider LGBTQI+ community sector in achieving equality and challenging prejudice.
LGBTQI+ Awareness Week will see a number of events take place across Northern Ireland, from family fun days to hill walking events, and from LGBTQI+ awareness teacher training to transgender medical schools. The full programme is attached.
