Supporting LGBTQ Youth in Northern Ireland

EDUCATING THE EDUCATORS

Educating the Educators is a training session delivered by Cara-Friend to all professionals and volunteers working with young people in Northern Ireland. It is designed to make the participants’ practice more inclusive of, and responsive to, the needs of LGBT young people. It has been delivered in Belfast once a year for the past three years, but 2017 has seen the highly successful session delivered in Derry-Londonderry, Armagh and Bangor, in addition to Belfast.

To continue the 2017 series of the training session we are now running the event again in Belfast and Derry-Londonderry, and also in Antrim, Armagh, Ballymena and Enniskillen.

The training consists of an informative session on sexual orientation and gender identity, and will cover the issues faced by LGBT people, as well as the different definitions and terms we hear associated with this community. It will also involve a series of practical workshops designed to improve all participants’ practice in their workings with LGBT young people. It is designed to be interactive so that the participants can get the most out of the session – so specific scenarios can be brought in which relate to a participant’s own work.

If you would like to see Educating the Educators delivered in your area, please don’t hesitate to contact Declan on declan.meehan@cara-friend.org.uk or (028) 9089 0202.
