Supporting LGBTQ Youth in Northern Ireland

VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES

Our next volunteer recruitment phase begins Summer 2017!

In the meantime, learn about what opportunities are available within our organisation and fill out and return our expression of interest form below!

APPLICATION FORM FOR PROSPECTIVE VOLUNTEERS

If you have difficulty accessing the above application form please email admin@cara-friend.org.uk

Being a volunteer for Cara-Friend is a rewarding and fulfilling experience and allows you to make a huge difference to the lives of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals trans people and their families and friends. It’s also an excellent way for you to develop new skills in life, meet new people and make an active contribution to the LGBT community in Northern Ireland.

LGBT SWITCHBOARD NI VOLUNTEERS

LGBT Switchboard NI Volunteers make up the vast majority of our volunteers and they operate the helpline, listening to callers’ concerns, providing calm words and appropriate support and relevant information when necessary. There is also the aspect of offering befriendings, operating our new Online Chat Support service and responding to emails.

However, we also have roles for people who want to help Cara-Friend but do not want to volunteer for the Switchboard.

ADMINISTRATION VOLUNTEERS

Administrative Volunteers help us ensure the smooth running of our offices, inputting data, sending out information by post, typing reports, booking rooms, and organising events.

FUNDRAISING VOLUNTEERS

Fundraising Volunteers help us raise funds for Cara-Friend by attending ‘bucket rattles’ which regularly take place across Northern Ireland’s LGBT venues, or by helping out or organising other fundraising events.

INFORMATION RESEARCHERS

Information Researchers help us maintain and update our comprehensive database, ensuring that the information we have is both up to date and accurate. This vital role enables our telephone volunteers to have access to the most relevant information during the calls they take.

WEBSITE VOLUNTEERS

Website Volunteers ensure that news items and other important information is kept fresh and up-to-date throughout our websites and social media pages.

BECOME A VOLUNTEER

Applying to become a volunteer is easy: if you are interested in any of the volunteering opportunities above, please fill out the expression of interest form and contact the office on 02890 89 02 02 or email our Administration Officer Adam Murray at adam@cara-friend.org.uk

If you are distressed or require help and support out-of-hours, please contact Lifeline on 0808 808 8000. Lines open 24/7
