Come Walk in Our Shoes
- On March 11, 2016
On Monday, March 7th, the Youth Team of Cara-Friend took part in the facilitation of an event called ‘Walk in Our Shoes’ at the RADAR centre, organised by the LGBTQI+ subgroup of CYPSP. The event was aimed towards all professionals who work with children and young people, to better enable them to deal with issues relating to being LGBTQI+. At the start of the event each attendee was assigned an LGBTQI+Q identity, from whose perspective they would then experience each scenario at the event.
Youth Officers Lee Cullen and Orla Flood, Admin Officer Keith Tsang along with Youth Team Intern François Fekete de Vari, facilitated three different scenarios: a classroom, on a bus, and on a street during Pride. In each of the scenarios the participants were not only asked to think in the perspectives of their identities but to also to assess whether or not their surroundings were LGBTQI+ friendly, and how would they professionally improve upon this for a child or young person who is LGBTQI+Q.
The team along with our partners in YouthNet felt that the event went extremely well and were very glad that the people that came enjoyed the event as much as we did.
