CARA-FRIEND SUPPORTING LGBTQI+ YOUTH IN SCHOOLS & YOUTH CLUBS

Cara-Friend offers a number of programmes and workshops as part of our offering around training and capacity building. We aim to raise awareness of LGBTQI+ issues and identities among young people (in youth clubs and schools) and those who work with young people (in all youth-facing service, including schools), and anyone else working with people, and therefore potentially LGBTQI+ people, in an effort to make the LGBTQI+ experience in Northern Ireland more positive.

Building capacity of professionals and volunteers who work with young people, in particular, is a key interest of ours.

LGBTQI+ AWARENESS TRAINING

Our LGBTQI+ Awareness Training delivery covers everything you need to know about the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer communities in Northern Ireland. It is designed to make staff and volunteers (from any organisation) more confident in tackling LGBTQI+ issues, and filling in any gaps in their knowledge. We can deliver to this to staff and volunteers, with workshops catered to the needs of the particular organisation, or section of the team. For example, we deliver LGBTQI+ Awareness Training that is tailored for whole school teams, or for sections of any organisation such as Outreach Youth Workers. Contact us to book an LGBTQI+ Awareness Training session for your school, youth group or organisation for your next Staff Training Day or similar.

SHOUTOUT LGBTQI+ ANTI-BULLYING WORKSHOPS FOR SCHOOL STUDENTS

This workshop is designed specifically for the school setting and is available to all schools in Northern Ireland. Our trainers will deliver the workshop to students in class-sized groups to cover general LGBTQI+ awareness, as well as specifically combating the issues of homophobia, transphobia and biphobia. The workshops are designed to build students’ awareness of the issues LGBTQI+ young people face on a day-to-day basis and to eliminate bullying and stigma faced by LGBTQI+ youth, by tackling ignorance and negative attitudes. Contact us to book a Cara-Friend – ShoutOut workshop for your school on the email below. Workshops are available for free to all post-primary schools.

All training is offered for free as we do not wish financial concerns to be a reason for an organisation or school not to avail of programmes that will work towards improving the lived experiences of LGBTQI+ young people in Northern Ireland. However, as an under-funded charity we do accept donations to ensure we can continue the important work we are doing.

For all inquiries relating to training and programmes offered, please contact Declan Meehan on declan.meehan@cara-friend.org.uk or call the office on (028) 9089 0202.
